Wait... Aren't you supposed to update these?
I guess I'm not really any better at posting on a blog than I am at emailing people. Oh well.
Soooo, a bit about me. I'm in my 30s, married, with a dog. My likes: riding bikes, reading, live music, Star Wars, and long walks on the beach.
Turn-offs include: SUVs, war over oil, smooth jazz, and people who don't think like I do.
Oh, and people who take themselves too seriously.
O.K., so I took my Daniella ( my wife) to see Ani DiFranco play on Sunday. If you're not familiar with her work, check out http://www.righteousbabe.com . While you're there, listen to the opening act, Andrew Bird. Every now and then, an opener really grabs you. Years ago, I had this happen with Catherine Wheel opening for The Sundays ( I know, I know- give me a break. I had the hots for this Canadian nurse, and she was big on The Sundays, you get it.)
So this Andrew Bird guy is really different. Looping on a sequencer, he's lay down a few tracks on the violin (?), followed by playing guitar and singing, interluding occasionally with a xylophone (? again)
I've been thinking about bikes recently. Odd, eh? Anyway, I'd like to get rid of cars. Not completely, mind you. I understand there's a place for 'em, just not so goddamn many of 'em. SUVs especially. Maybe it's just being stuck here in SoCal ( the Empire of the gas-guzzling, lane-swallowing, rudeness inducing Satan's Ultimate Vehicle.) Probably not. How much car do people need, for 's sake? The worst part is, they never seem to fill them. I'm talkin' solitary suburbanite, always on the celly, weaving to and fro, and then honking at me when they drift into the bike lane! Makes you want to start a guerrilla war. I do know how to cause a ruckus, after all.
Alright, blood pressure's coming down... Whew.
People in this land of ours don't seem to rely on themselves enough. How often do you see people climb into their cars just to go to the store, a couple of blocks away? I see it waaay too much. Any idea how much we can reduce pollution if we cut out these unnecessary short trips? Well, I don't have any actual data, mind you, but I could. God help me, I could.
Get on yer bike.
And try and keep the rubber side down.
Los
